About Strikkekista

I'm Ingvill Freland, the person behind Strikkekista.

Through Strikkekista I create knitting designs with a focus on quality, functionality and a timeless look. I also dye yarn, and I enjoy exploring colours and shades in my dye pots.

For me, knitting is about more than making garments. It is about craft and tradition, but what matters most to me is the joy of creating. The joy of giving ideas physical form is truly special, particularly when the result turns out just as I had pictured it. It gives me a very particular kind of high.

I am often inspired by colour combinations, yarn qualities and new techniques. The best ideas often come when things go quiet, my thoughts settle and creativity has room to breathe. Nature is therefore an important part of my creative process. I live in Lierne, a scenic mountain municipality by the Swedish border in the middle of Norway, and I like to spend time outdoors. I have heaps of projects around me at home, and I rarely head off anywhere without my knitting in my bag or backpack. I also love the little breaks from the screen – in the sunshine against the wall outside my home office, with my knitting in my lap and a cup of coffee beside me. An important part of the working day!
