Hand-dyed in the workshop

Dyed by hand. Shaped with soul.

Every batch is dyed by hand in pots in my own kitchen – only 75 to 500 grams at a time. This gives the colours a depth and a lively play you will never find in industrial yarn. Because everything is done by hand, there can be subtle differences in shade from skein to skein, even within the same batch. That is not a flaw – it is the very signature of genuine, uncompromising craftsmanship.

Tip: For the most even and harmonious play of colour in larger garments, it is recommended to knit alternately from two skeins at the same time (for example two rounds from each).

About

"The joy of letting ideas take physical form is truly special"

I'm Ingvill Freland, the person behind Strikkekista.

Through Strikkekista I create knitting designs with a focus on quality, functionality and a timeless look. I also dye yarn and enjoy exploring colours and shades in my dye pots.

For me, knitting is about more than making garments.

It is about craft and tradition, but what matters most to me is the joy of creating. The joy of letting ideas take physical form is truly special, especially when the result turns out the way I pictured it. It gives a rush of happiness all of its own.

The best ideas often come when calm settles in, thoughts go quiet and creativity finds room.
Nature is therefore an important part of my creative process. I live in Lierne, a scenic mountain municipality by the Swedish border in the middle of Norway, and I like to spend time outdoors, both with and without my knitting
